On the other side of the party season most of us are taking stock of our lives, making resolutions for the coming months and vowing never to overindulge ever again. At least until the next party or BBQ. During this season of relaxing and an overabundance of food and alcohol mixed together with the sun and lack of sleep, the skin can suffer and look the worst for wear.

Common symptoms of stressed skin can be dehydration, dull lacklustre appearance, irritations, breakouts and even fine lines especially around the eyes. Thankfully we have some simple solutions for you to implement quickly into your lifestyle to look your radiant self again.

Skin Detox
Your skin is a mirror of what's going on inside of you. After the excesses of the holiday season it is vital to detox not only your body but your skin too. The first step is to introduce more fluids into your diet to flush out the accumulated toxins and start to rehydrate the body and the skin. While drinking water is very important it is not the only way to rehydrate yourself. We all know by now that we must drink 2 litres or 8 glasses of water every day and more if you are drinking alcohol.

However did you realise that 20 percent of your fluid intake comes from your food, such as fruits and vegetables. Therefore this is the perfect time to hook into those salads that are so full of water rich vegetables such as lettuce, cucumber, capsicum, tomato etc. Also feel free to indulge in the wonderful selection of water rich summer fruits like watermelon, all the berries, cherries and grapes.

Not only do these foods help to hydrate and detoxify the body but they are a wonderful source of essential vitamins and minerals that are vital for the healthy functioning of the skin and body. The brighter the colour of the fruit the better it is for you. They are also an essential source of antioxidants that get depleted in the body.

The next step in your skin detox is a deep clean from the outside. A deep cleansing mask with mud, seaweed or clay are the best for this purpose as they help to draw the impurities out from deep in your pores, not only giving you a smooth, even skin but preventing breakouts and congestion too.

Skin Nourishment
After cleansing and detoxing the skin it is equally important to feed and nourish the skin. This again can be achieved both internally and externally.

For healthy skin we need plenty of vitamins and minerals and of course good oils to keep the skin supple and prevent dryness. Nuts, seeds, legumes and omega rich fish like tuna and salmon are a rich source of skin supporting components so make sure you have plenty of these types of foods in your diet.

Externally a daily moisturiser is vital for all skin types. These days moisturisers are literally brimming with all sorts of goodies in them from antioxidants to a plethora of vitamins to aid and assist in the healthy function of your skin. Choose a moisturiser that is suitable for your skin type and get the benefits of a topical vitamin hit.

So armed with all this information make yourself a big salad, grab a big glass of water, put on some relaxing music, smother your face with your cleansing mask, lie back, relax and take 15 minutes just for yourself. After your home made rejuvenation session you will be glowing with renewed radiance, energy and vitality. Guaranteed!
