Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Light-Weight Daily 30+ $17.99

Description: Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen is the only product range in Australia to contain patented Helioplex technology, which provides broad-spectrum protection from UVB rays – the primary cause of sunburn – as well as UVA rays – the main cause of long-term skin damage and up to 90 percent of premature skin ageing. The breakthrough Helioplex technology effectively absorbs the hazardous UVA and UVB rays, providing photostable’, durable protection – meaning it won’t break down or lose its ability to protect the skin, even when exposed to sunlight.

Linda – Age: 58,  Skin Type: Normal

My first impression when I opened it was the light pleasant smell. The smell was really nice, and light. The texture was very easy to apply, not thick and sticky like some other 30+.

I noticed that it wasn’t shiny on the skin, and I couldn’t tell I was using a sun screen. It left me feeling silky. I would purchase this sunscreen again, I really would, I liked this product a lot.
I would give it full marks 5 out of 5.

Jacqueline – Age:37, Skin Type: Dry Skin

I could not wait to try this sunscreen! The smell is really lovely and the texture is fantastic, I really like this product!

Living in the tropics its really hard to find a sunscreen that isn’t sticky once you have applied it and this product really does live up to its claims. It does dry into the skin quickly removing that ‘ick’ factor and as it does dry quickly it gives me more confidence knowing that the product will work.
I will DEFINATLEY buy it again!!!

Nicky – Age:37  Skin Type:Normal Skin

I thought this is too good to be true – sunscreen is oily!
This feels nice to touch but too smelly for me. This sunscreen is not oily as promised.
I would buy it again, it feels nice on the face not oily at all – amazing! I give it 4 Stars– if they could reduce the smell a touch it would be a 5.

Magdalena – Age:32  Skin Type: Oily Combination Skin

Packaging was very nice and the description at the back was quite informative.
The texture seemed a bit thick but it actually applied quite easily without stretching my skin. It soaked right into the skin and didn’t leave a film that a lot of sunscreens do. I usually get breakouts from heavy moisturizers and creams but my skin responded very well to this one.
I think it may give a better protection than others sunscreens because even after all day in the snow ( I did reapply) I didn’t get any redness on my face. Usually I’d be quite flushed from all sun/snow exposure and with this cream I had just a tiny hint of color on my nose and cheeks.
I will definitely be buying this Sunscreen again!!
I give it 4.5 stars
Half star is missing as I would prefer the packaging to have a pop up lid so one doesn’t need to fiddle with a screw on cap while in the great outdoors.

Leanne – Age:37  Skin Type: Normal Skin

I was impressed with the packaging, the smell & definitely the feel of the product.
The product smelled great & the texture lived up to my expectations. It really does have a dry-touch feel to it.
I found that it was comfortable to wear all day due to the dry-touch factor. There is no sticky feel to this product at all. I am absolutely going to purchase this product & recommend it to friends.
I would definitely give it a 5. The product lives up to its promises.

Lesley – Age:56  Skin Type: Oily Combination Skin

I applied it and waited to see how different it was to any other sunscreen. It had a nice smooth texture and didn’t notice any smell really. It’s not shiny or greasy.  No one would even know you had it on.  Very nice. I will definitely buy it again. I give it 4 Stars

Lori – Age:32  Skin Type: Normal/Oily Skin

FANTASTIC!
Exceptionally high coverage, easy application, no WHITE face, as with sunscreens that contain zinc. When I put it on, it left my skin (face) feeling incredibly smooth and soft. It was a light smell, and the texture was not sticky, tacky, or difficult to apply.  I just literally rubbed it on like a regular moisturizer.

I used this before and during a few good running sessions, and it did not melt into my eyes, or rub off. I also took it when I went SCUBA diving, and I was diligent with reapplying, the way it felt like it absorbed into my face, I almost did not reapply at all. My skin was soft and smooth, like a nice moisturiser was applied, and I did not get any stinging sensation, white chalky face, or awful smell.  Nor did I break out at all, and I used it all over my body and face.

If Price would be of no concern, would you purchase this Sunscreen for yourself in the future?

Yes, YES, YES, and for my husband, and when she is older, my daughter.  I ADORE this product.

I give it 5 Stars.  This will be my new sunscreen.  For my face, and for my body. And for my family. You want the best protection for your family, and this is it. We are an outdoors orientated family, SCUBA, surfing, boating, as we live on the coast and take full advantage of it, and I will definitely buy this product when it comes out. And use it year round.  I will never use a different sunscreen.

Annie – Age:29,  Skin Type: Normal/Combination Skin

When I first saw this sunscreen, I think it has a very nice packaging, 85ml will last for awhile. *Dry Touch*. It’s described as a Dry Touch Lotion, but when I squeezed it out, it’s a creamy texture instead of lotion as described and I thought it was going to be quite thick and greasy on my skin. After I applied it onto my face, the sunscreen soaked in and left my skin feeling so soft and smooth. I love it, really lightweight.
I actually love the smell of it. I think its smell is the same as PERT shampoo which I love and have been using. Beautiful smell!!!
Before trying this product, I have been using a few different brands such as Hamilton, Lancome, Shiseido, Olay (moisturizer with SPF 30+)…
I think Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen Lotion SPF30+ is the best one. It’s great in both texture and fragrance. I have been using this sunscreen for 2 weeks, but so far so good, I don’t have any breakouts.

Comparing to other sunscreens that I have been using, this one comes with a reasonable price, I am more than happy to have it for myself when I finish this trial tube.
I would give this sunscreen 5 stars.

Anna – Age:29, Skin Type: Normal Skin

I liked the colours and feel of the packaging – and the scientific details of the  ingredients.  Plus it’s a small enough tube to slip into your handbag. I think it basically smelled like any sunscreen – they all have the same distinctive “milky” smell I think.  The texture is quite thick, although it’s easily squeezed from the tube.  I found it helps to warm the product with your fingers before application so it spreads more easily.  Also, I applied a mineral foundation straight after applying the sunscreen without any problems – I like that the sunscreen absorbed quickly without appearing to “sit” on top of the skin or leaving a whitish “cast” to the skin.

The main thing I like about this sunscreen compared to others I have used in the past is the fact that it absorbs so fast and wears well under makeup. I would absolutely buy it again – I think it’s a great product for everyday on the face.
I give it 4 Stars – just because I tested it during winter and I think I would need to see how it goes in summer before giving it a 5/5.  I love that it absorbs so quickly and the science behind the active ingredients is interesting.  I would definitely purchase this product.

Leila – Age:31, Skin Type: Combination Skin

Light, absorbs into the skin quickly, pleasant smell, makes my skin feel soft!
Packaging is small and compact. Easy to carry around in your handbag.
The sunscreen has a light pleasant fragrance, kind of like baby powder. The texture is very nice for a sunscreen.  It’s light and easily absorbed into the skin.  Once applied, it leaves your skin feeling soft.  It is very different to a normal sunscreen whereby you can feel the cream on your skin.  With the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer, it barely feels like you are wearing anything, let alone a sunscreen!  It feels very moisturising on the skin!

My skin feels so soft and ultra moisturised after applying the sunscreen.  I don’t feel the need to apply another cream on my face if I’m using this sunscreen as it adds moisture as well as protecting my skin from the sun. I will definitely be using this again.  At $17.99, what a real bargain! It is a moisturising cream as well as a sunscreen all in one. Where could you find anything better!
5 Stars

Rebecca – Age:31, Skin Type: Combination Skin

I like that it covers UVA and UVB rays and is non-shiny/dry-touch.
It went on quite thick, a little greasier than I expected initially, but seemed to sink in quite nicely.  I’m not sure about non-shiny as such though, maybe it is if you have dry skin.  A little more heavily scented than I would prefer.

It is lighter than the usual sunscreen I use, and the UVA/UVB is a drawcard. I would purchase it again. 4 Stars

Michelle – Age:38, Skin Type: Sensitive/Dry Skin

It was quite light textured which I liked and I liked the packaging shape and size.
I really liked the texture, it was light and absorbed easily. The scent was nice but not too strong.
I didn’t really notice any benefits from using this as opposed to other sunscreens but I have only had it for a week and it is the middle of winter.
I will definitely be looking out for this one when I need a new one.
4 Stars

Maureen – Age:39, Skin Type: Normal Skin

I’ve always found Neutrogena to be a good brand, so was happy that they had come up with a sun-screen, especially when I say that it was advertised as being dry touch. There’s no smell that I could find. When I first squeezed it out, I was a bit concerned as it seems so thick, almost like zinc cream, that I thought it couldn’t be well absorbed. But it was really easy apply and was absorbed straight away.

Once it had been applied, there was no greasy feel as it seemed to soak right in. This is a terrific bonus. Also, there was no ‘sun cream’ smell left behind. I used it on my face and arms at a BBQ where I was sitting in the sun all day, and didn’t tan at all. Other creams I’ve used in the past have to be reapplied so often to stay effective, but this one doesn’t. I wasn’t able to test the water resistance, as it is not warm enough for a swim yet, but this certainly delivers on everything else promised on the box.
I would buy this again. The only drawback is that because the hole in the tube is so small, you feel like you are applying a lot more than you actually are.
4.5 Stars

Nicolle – Age: 32, Skin Type:Normal/Combination

What were your first impressions of the Sunscreen?
It was packaged really nicely and very informative with the SPF 30+ in bold. I liked the Skin and Cancer foundation Australia endorsement. The size was also perfect as I keep it in my handbag and it’s not too big and not too small.
The texture was very good, thick enough to get enough on your hand and see what your doing but not too thick so it was hard to rub in. I LOVED the smell. It reminded me of Frangipani or some summer flower smell. I love my creams to smell nice, it also reminds me that I got it on my skin.

Did you notice any benefits from using this Sunscreen as opposed to others you have used in the past?
Yes I definitely noticed that I didn’t get sunburnt while outside, I noticed that there was no white residue left on my skin from the application which I get from other sunscreens. I felt that my skin could breathe too.

Out of five, what star rating would you give this Sunscreen based on your experience with it?
Probably about a 4, only because I would like something a little more creamier, But in saying that I was very happy with the product and I would defiantly buy it and recommend it.

Caroline

Liked the size and look of the tube. Had heard a lot about Neutrogena being particularly good so was looking forward to using it.

Lovely texture, squeezed easily from the tube and spread easily on my skin. Smell was light and pleasant. I am not quite convinced by the Dry-touch technology, as I found it remained sticky on my skin for quite a while. Eventually though it did soak in, and was also quite good under make-up on my face.
Unfortunately, I hate to say I didn’t find it very effective. I had the ability to test it out up at Hamilton Island for 10 days (in beautiful weather) and found I still burnt on my face, chest and shoulders when I was wearing it.
I wouldn’t purchase it for myself again as unfortunately it doesn’t matter to me how good it feels, it has to work as a sunscreen.

How to Achieve a Flawless Face

Who doesn’t want a youthful, flawless complexion and smooth skin? It is the holy grail of skincare and makeup products. As consumers we are all in search of that ‘one product’ that will make all the difference in smoothing out the wrinkles, evening out the skin tone, giving us a glowing complexion and at the same time looks completely natural. I would love to tell you that there is such a product but it’s just not that easy or simple. Many factors influence the way the foundation and makeup looks on the skin.

For example the skincare products you use on your skin may have a big part in the look of your makeup. Also your skin type can influence how the makeup sits on the skin. So bellow are a few suggestions to help you achieve a flawless face.

* For an even skin you need to exfoliate your skin. Foundation sits a lot better on skin that has been freshly exfoliated. Try these fantastic exfoliants:
(Click on the name of the product for more information)
Pelactiv Facial Refiner Deep Cleansing Scrub
Dr. LeWinn’s Facial Polishing Gel

* If you have dry skin make sure you use a moisturiser under your makeup. Choose a moisturiser that is not too oily rather, choose one that is hydrating. ” If you have oily skin, you too will have to use a moisturiser. Choose one that is oil free and mattifying for your skin.
*
Sodashi Sleek Moisturiser
Ultraceuticals – Ultra A Hydration Booster

* To cover any blemishes or dark circles around the eye, choose a concealer one or two shades lighter than your foundation. Gently tap your index finger over the concealer to blend it in with your foundation.

* Don’t be afraid to use enough foundation. A flawless face will only be achieved if you have an even amount of foundation all over the face and is blended well. Pay special attention to the nose and mouth area so as to cover any redness around this area.

* To get a really smooth coverage use a foundation sponge or if using a powder foundation invest in a good quality foundation brush. Take a leaf out of makeup artists around the globe. Not many use their fingers and that’s because it’s hard to apply even pressure over a larger area such as the cheeks and forehead. ” Be sure to blend the foundation almost to nothing around the edges of the face. Pay special attention to the jaw line as there is nothing worse than an obvious line around the face.

* As the finishing touch, apply a light dusting of powder. This will give your foundation the lasting power you require for all day coverage and will take away shine. A note of caution; make sure it is a light dusting of powder as too much can ruin your whole look by looking pasty and flowery.

* As the very last step, don’t forget your blusher. Nothing pulls the flawless complexion together more than a hint of colour on the cheeks.

Real Men Do Moisturise

Yes, real men do use moisturiser. These days they use their own moisturiser too. Gone are the days of sneaking a little of whatever the wife had in the bathroom, now days the boys require their own shelf in the bathroom cabinet.

And cosmetics companies know this too. That is the reason more and more are bringing masculine looking product ranges to the market. Do men need their own products? In many cases the answer is yes they do. Men’s skin is naturally thicker than women skin and generally it tends to be oilier as well. Added to this, men’s skin faces special challenges with the constant shaving. So a lot of the men’s product ranges contain special ingredients that help with this challenge. The products need to have healing and soothing qualities as well as antiseptic to deal with the small nicks and cuts acquired during shaving.

The shaving products need to have ingredients that not only protect the skin by lubricating it but also soften the beard to make shaving easier. So it is without a doubt that men face their own challenges when it comes to their grooming. Even though these products are targeted at men, it is a widely known fact that women are the ones who purchase the majority of these products for their men. Therefore, here are some of the latest products to help make your men the well kept gorgeous thing you’d like him to be!

Livia’s review:
My first impression of this mask when I opened the tube was how light the product appeared in texture. The mask was almost of a milky consistency. But as I was applying it to my skin I was surprised at how moist it actually felt on the skin.

The mask dried to a clear finish in about 10 minutes without going hard or stiff on the face.
The smell of this mask is very light, refreshing and a little bit herbal, but I quickly got used to it and it didn’t concern me while I had it on my face.

Once the mask was removed with warm water I was pleasantly surprised at how moist and soft my skin felt, a feeling that lasted well over the next day.

I feel confident in recommending this mask to anyone as it is for all skin types and will not disappoint. A great product to have in you cupboard especially in winter as the skin needs all the hydration it can get. I can’t fault this mask in any way.

Dina

What were your first impressions of the product?

A tube product suits me as it is easier to store in my cabinet and is easy to use. Labelling is excellent, so you know exactly what you are getting.

How did you find the application of it?

No need for digging fingers in creams and under you fingernails. I liked the squeeze tube for hygienic reasons. When applied to my face, if found that the product absorbed really well, and didn’t leave a greasy feeling at all. I use an SPF during the day, so I put this product on over that for day time, and at night when I went out and didn’t need an SPF I used the ‘Glow’ and found it fabulous as a make-up primer or just as a moisturiser with some bronzer.

How did you find the texture and smell of the product?

I loved the texture. It wasn’t runny, so in that respect it really did have a ‘balm’ feel to it, making it really easy to apply. And the smell was just divine – the smell of lavender and rose was very fresh, but not overpowering. My skin felt wonderfully soft and hydrated, and I noticed that my foundation (which I rarely wear) had longer staying power. I’m really enjoying this product. It will be a staple in my makeup cupboard. I just hope Natio don’t discontinue it. I used to use Clarins ‘Beauty Flash Balm’ but I think Natio ‘Glow’ suits me best. I’m converted! Definitely 5 stars. An excellent product.

Jasmine

What were your first impressions of the product?

The product I tried was the Salvador Blush colour. I loved the colour, and the packaging is fantastic, with two compartments for the loose shimmer power and cream highlighter, and also has a little mirror in the lid. It was like two products in one container.

How did you find the application and lasting ability of it?

It was really easy to apply, and is so versatile. The cream can be applied anywhere with fingers, and the shimmer powder has a miniature applicator to apply it with. I found its lasting ability to be great.

Did you notice any benefits from using the product?

The benefits from using this product are its highlighting abilities, particularly the cream. I used it anywhere where I wanted to highlight my skin. I would buy this product, in both colours. It’s great for summer to highlight skin, and the product would last a long time. I would give this product 5 out of 5 because it is so versatile and can be used anywhere.

This exfoliator was a pleasure to use. It is a very gentle, no nonsense product that is suitable for all skin types. The granules are very fine so they won’t damage the skin, but are enough to loosen the dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. After use my skin was just glowing. The formulation of this scrub is quite creamy however I found that this made the granules more emollient and slippery on the skin adding to the gentleness of this face scrub. I feel this is an excellent product that is very well priced for everyday use.

Nichole – Age: 23

I found the application really good actually because the polish is a little thicker, which makes for a really neat application! Also because of its thickness, less than the size of a 5c coin is needed, which is really good for me because I tend to use a lot more with products like these. The smell is pretty similar to the creams that the company makes, like glycerine, which is ok because it gets washed off anyway. I found that it wasn’t very coarse on my skin which was good because I used it to clean my face after removing my makeup almost everyday.

Brigitta – Age: 25

I love products that do exactly as they say. This facial polish didn’t make any exaggerated claim, it didn’t try to dazzle me with weird ingredients, it just said that it will gently exfoliate and that is exactly what it did. It was so gentle that I could use it every day without any irritation. I liked the creamy texture as it was a little moisturising on my skin. The smell was very subtle, not too noticeable. I really liked it and would buy it again.
5 Stars

Joanne – Age:26

The granule is the finest and it feels wonderfully soft during application and the result is ‘smooth baby skin’. I love the texture; it contains creamier texture than your usual exfoliants, with lots of fine granules churned into the cream. It really is gentle enough to use everyday as it claims. It smells nice too! It’s likely that I will purchase this exfoliant, as I can use it everyday. I will use it on my body too.
4.5 Stars

Rebecca – Age: 23

I was impressed with the size of the tube and the amount of product you get for a reasonable price. Simple, no-nonsense packaging. This is quite a gritty scrub so I had to be gentle with the scrubbing action; it otherwise rinsed well and left my skin very soft and smooth. It was a perfect texture for a scrub; I don’t like scrubs that don’t feel like they are doing anything. This product is fragrance free so I had no problems with the scent.

Julie – Age: 34

I knew the QV brand to be a pharmacy brand and mild on skin. I like exfoliators, but find many to be too harsh so I was keen to try this. The exfoliating granules were suspended in a thick cream which I found took a little bit of rinsing off. However, I used the exfoliator for about two weeks every day or every second day and had no adverse reaction to it. The product has little to no smell. The exfoliating granules are very fine so it’s not too abrasive. I would be tempted to try the product again. It made no outlandish claims about what it could do for me, but it was an effective exfoliator which is all I would really expect.

I like many others have been a fan of OPI for a long time. Not only for their amazing range of colours but also for the wearability of the formulation. With a base coat, two coats of colour and a top coat I can wear these colours for a week without the need for a touch up.

I especially love the wide brushes that make the application so easy as it only takes a couple of brush strokes to apply the colour evenly and without any lumps or bumps. I look forward to seeing all the future colour collections and the quirky names for them.

Julie – Age:34

I had seen O.P.I. nail colours in a lot of nail technicians so I gathered it was a good quality and long wearing for professionals to be using it. I found the brush was a lot thicker than other nail colours I’ve used, but it was very effective at applying an even coat in three strokes. After just one coat the colour looked even and was non-transparent. I could have worn my nails with one coat only. Colour was long lasting and overall product is a world away from the terrible $2 nail polishes we sometimes try and get away with. When it comes to nail polishes you get what you pay for.

The colour I tried was a dark burgundy called Catherine the Grape. Not an overly Summery colour but will be beautiful to wear out on winter nights. The polish had very, very little fumes which is great. The colour was thick and lustrous. I would definitely buy this product again. I think you only really need about four nail colours all up. I’d rather have four good quality ones than 20 cheapies.

Joanne – Age:26

O.P.I is a trusted brand for its nail polish. Perfect colour for work. Clean, fresh beige-y pink for work. I’ve received compliment from it too! It glided on smoothly, I applied two coats and also added a top coat for wearability like I normally would in my routine. So far, I haven’t reapplied my nail colour for five days. Texture and consistency are above average, it gave my nails a smooth texture after application. It does not smell unpleasant. I would definitely purchase the same colour for work, and more colours in the collection.
4.5 Stars

Venitia – Age:22

The packaging is nice and functional. It looks like the rest of the OPI range. It was easy to apply and dried very quickly. I’m a bit clumsy and usually manage to smudge my nail polish before it dries, but this product dried very quickly. It did begin to chip off my fingernails slightly on the first day. I do have long nails and work at a computer all day, so that’s understandable. It didn’t seem to chip at all on my toenails. I received “Pink of Hearts”. It was a light baby pink colour. It is not a colour I would normally wear, as I prefer a more natural shade. It didn’t have an overpowering nail polish scent and the texture made application a breeze. I would not purchase this colour again, but I would certainly purchase other OPI nail polishes.
4 Stars

Danielle – Age:25

I was pleased to get an O.P.I. Nail polish as they have a great reputation. I also really liked the colour for a nude tone so was keen to try it. Plus the names for the colours are great fun. I was concerned with the colour (‘I Only Drink Champagne’) that one application would not give good coverage for a nude tone. But I found that once dry, the coverage was good and, if it was for everyday wear, one coat would be sufficient. Of course two coats just finished it off nicely and would be great for day or night wear.

The application was nice and smooth. It wasn’t ‘gluggy’ as some nail polishes can be. I found it dried pretty quickly without having to use quick dry sprays etc. Even with one coat I found the wearability very good – no chipping in the first 24hrs! But by the 3rd day there was quite a bit worn away. With two coats I found that it didn’t wear away as quickly. I found the texture to be nice and silky upon application with no clumps. The smell was not overpowering as some nail polishes can be.
4 Stars

Brigitta – Age:25

I have always wanted to try these but was never certain they would be worth the money. I have been missing out. Not only are the colours great (I got Vodka&Caviar) but they have a huge variety of them. The brush is quite wide so you get a very good coverage in one stroke. The texture is very smooth and even, so I only needed one coat for an even look but I applied two coats just out of habit and it looked even more fantastic. I am in love with these nail colours.

How good is a product that does more than one thing? This gloss not only gives the lips shine, it also moisturises and softens the skin. The colours are quite sheer and easy to wear.

The texture is smooth and creamy and will generally last for a couple of hours on the lips. I enjoyed wearing this lip gloss very much and in a market that is saturated by lip glosses it is nice to see a gloss that is also moisturising as well as beautifying.

Joanne – Age:26

Very feminine, lady-like packaging and easy to carry. It comes in a squeeze tube, very easy to apply and it’s not sticky. Very creamy and rich that I don’t need to squeeze a lot out of the tube. It was also very durable. Rose is the colour I’ve got. It’s not like a blood red colour or a Barbie doll pink, which goes perfect with my Asian skin colour. It’s VERY creamy and colourful. I could see different shades of red/pink/rose from the reflection of the gloss. It doesn’t have that artificial glossy smell like many of the lip glosses have. It smells like food and could last for hours. It’s just like a lip butter/conditioner and has a very smooth texture.

Venitia – Age:23

The application of this gloss was a bit tricky as the product tended to move to the outside of my lips rather than cover them evenly. The feel was nice; although my hair would often get stuck in it which I don’t normally have trouble with other lip glosses. I received 02 Rose. On the lips it is a sheer beige-gold with a fine gold shimmer. It is a very subtle look, good for paring with bold eyes or for work. Unfortunately it comes off very easily so you have to keep reapplying it throughout the day. The texture was nice and smooth without being sticky. The smell was slightly artificial, it sort of reminds me of grape sherbet, but it is only noticeable when applying. 3.5 Stars. If it was less likely to get my hair stuck in it all the time and had more wearability I’d certainly get it again.

Julie – Age:34

I am familiar with Bourjois products but haven’t really used any of them apart from a lipstick. I like lip glosses and creams because I get dry lips in hot or cold weather. This gloss was easy to put on although this sort of applicator can sometimes result in the gloss being too thick and it’s hard to get a neat edge. I found this to be the case. I prefer a wand applicator for lip creams and glosses. Although I like subtle lip colours, especially for glosses and creams, I found this colour (04 Rose fondant) to be a little too subtle. I may as well have had Vaseline on. It had a pleasant smell and rich texture which is good for dry lips.

Danielle – Age:25

I must admit I thought it looked a bit boring for no particular reason. But I did like that the packaging was long and slim-line – great for in my handbag! It was easy to apply – one of those squeeze’n'glide applicator types – that way allowing as little or as much of the product applied. Once on it felt really nice. It didn’t feel like it was going to come off too easily and it felt quite moisturising on. I didn’t like the colour for a gloss at all in the packaging (Brun). It was a lot darker in the tube than when applied. I found when applying the gloss though that the colour would come out in ‘bursts’ – so all of a sudden a heap of brown would come out and then I would have to spread it over my lips. That was a bit annoying. Otherwise the colour when on was a nice tint with a glossy shine. The texture was smooth and just made my lips feel full of moisture. There wasn’t much of a fragrance.
3 Stars

Rebecca – Age:25

Cute tube, with applicator tip. This gloss comes out of a nozzle in the applicator, which I found a little unhygienic, so I squeezed it out onto my finger first. I received the Rose Moelleux colour. This was slightly too corally-peach for my complexion, it was however, a pretty colour and I can imagine it would be a great nude lip for some girls. The texture was quite smooth and not sticky. It smelt a bit “lip-balmy”.unsure how to describe it, it wasn’t unpleasant but I thought it might be better with a fruitier scent or not scent at all.

What were your first impressions of the product?

This looks very much like a foundation powder or blush from Revlon, but it is small enough to pack into my handbag and very light to carry.

How did you find the application of it?

The application was extremely easy with the sponge.

How did you find the colour of the product?

The colour was very nice and rather shimmery. It does make the face glow. I really like it for using at night. The texture was very light and the smell was lovely.

Description: Bare It All Lustrous Lotion incorporates the latest ultra refined pearl technology, which leaves a luminous and smooth finish on the skin. This modern, ultra lightweight texture has a transparent base which showcases the beauty of natural skin showing through.

Amanda

What were your first impressions of the product?

I was very excited to try this as I had been thinking of buying a new illuminator. I mainly used this to highlight certain parts of my face over foundation or on its own.

How did you find the application of it?

The pump pack was very easy to use and it didn’t dispense too much which was good as I didn’t waste any. Also the clear tube means you know when you are getting low so you can purchase a replacement. I found the lotion went on very smoothly and mixed well with liquid foundations for a subtle shimmer.

How did you find the colour of the product?

I found this colour VERY subtle – the first few times I almost couldn’t tell I had put it on even though I have quite pale skin.

How did you find the texture and smell of the product?

The texture was light and creamy and I didn’t really notice any scent when I used it. I love the idea of this product so I will give it a 3 star rating, the packaging was great and the application was fool proof but they need a variety of shades to suit all skin types.

Napoleon Perdis – Long Black Mascara 15 ml $30.00

Description: This innovative formula delivers lash-loving conditioning, thanks to allantoin, candellia wax and beeswax. A double shot of black pigment sets the stage for intense dramatic eyes. Bent wand applicator acts as a built-in lash curler while giving good contour and control over unruly lashes.

Suzanne

What were your first impressions of the product?

I was pretty interested in using this as it looked really interesting – I had never considered an angled wand.

How did you find the application of it?

It is probably no fault of the product that the applicator (me) was very “unco”. I have spent days looking like a panda! And more time removing excess than applying.

Did you notice any benefits from using the product?

No benefits to me personally in using this product, apart from my niece loves me as I have given it to her. I found it ran very easily and smudged quite a bit. It took a while to dry.

Readers of The Beauty Review will know that I love oils so it was with definite eagerness that I received this Ayurvedic formulation. The smell of it is very earthy and the colour is quite yellow but that disappears as soon as the product is absorbed. A little definitely goes a long way and one pump of the product was enough for my whole face as well as my neck and decolletage.

I noticed my skin was glowing in the morning after use. Also I started using it on my husband’s face as he has a scar on his forehead from a sunspot removal which is quite red and flaky sometimes. Since using this oil at night, the redness has just about disappeared and the texture of the skin has evened out and the flakiness is gone. He will definitely be using this oil in the future.

Ildiko – Age:55

I’m using this oil for a couple of week now and I love it. First of all I love that earthy fragrance of it. The direction says use it at night but I use it even during the day. It is really nourishing my skin and found it is not dry anymore. It makes it supple and my skin absorbs it very quickly. Very little amount is needed at a time, so it is very economic. I had some insect bites on my forearm and the marks of it did not want to go away. So I applied some of this oil, within a few days the marks started to fade away. I would give this product 5 stars. It is a brilliant product.

Nichole – Age:22

My first impression of this oil was; very natural, earthy looking and kind of exotic. It made me interested in trying ayurvedic products in the future because of the different approach that is taken to skin care. The pump is pretty easy to use when you tilt the bottle a little and aim for your palm! The product feels really nice, smooth and light on the skin, very nurturing and takes about half an hour to absorb fully. The smell is pleasant, because of the combination of the essential oils that have been used. The texture of the oil is very light and doesn’t leave a greasy residue on your fingers/hands. I can see a difference in the condition of my skin just from using it for a few weeks- it really is a ‘skin food’. I really like the product as well because it doesn’t have any synthetic preservatives and ingredients like that.
5 Stars

Brigitta – Age:25

I love natural products so I was so excited to try this oil. Initially I thought this is the type of product would be used in a spa. I certainly wasn’t disappointed. I loved it from the very first drop. I’ve never used an oil on my face for the evening, I usually use creams. The pump bottle makes it so easy to apply and you only need the tiniest amount to cover your whole face and neck. I adored the smell too. The texture of the oil was so smooth; it felt like velvet on my skin. After a week of use my skin just glows. I will definitely be using this again and I’m converted to oils. A definite 5 Stars.

Venitia – Age:22

It looked like many other organic/healing/natural type products on the market. The idea of all the natural ingredients and it being handmade in Australia appealed to me. I found that the pump delivered wayyy too much product with each depression. I almost dripped it all over my top the first time I used it. It says that the orange colour should disperse as it is absorbed into the skin, but I found it left a yellowy, oily look on my skin. I definitely wouldn’t put it on just before going out somewhere (and the directions say it is designed for use at night). It stayed very oily on my skin. The texture again was oily and shiny. The product smelt strongly of rosehip oil and essential oils. The smell was a little overpowering for me, but a little goes a long way.

Danielle – Age:25

I really liked the look of it as it gave the impression of a day spa! I couldn’t wait to take the lid off and smell it either! It was not what I expected at all! The bottle said to put 4-5 drops on your face but the bottle was actually a pump action so, I originally went with 4 pumps which was MORE than enough! It was so oily; it was a little hard to control!! Also, being an oil, it was quite hard to get off your hands. On my face (obviously with a little too much on!) it appeared orange (like it said it would) for a while but even when I went to sleep I felt that my skin was still too oily and that it would ruin my pillow! After that first mishap – I just went with one pump and that was plenty for my face! It did feel quite nice on after all! I liked the smell; it was very relaxing (although I am not sure I would want to smell it all the time). The texture was just too oily – although the following morning my skin did feel nice – I just didn’t feel comfortable going to bed with my face feeling oily. I give it 2 Stars and that is mainly for the fact the bottle says to use drops but was packaged in a pump action bottle.

Estee Lauder Artist’s Eye Pencil $38.00

Description:The ultra creamy formula is not too hard, not too soft…it’s just right. Glides on effortlessly for long-wearing, stay-in-place colour. Precise application is easy, whether defining, shaping or colouring. Dermatologist- and ophthalmologist-tested.

Aileen

What were your first impressions of the product?

I have previously used Estee Lauder makeup in the past, so I had high expectations of the product. It is a simple eye pencil that can be sharpened.

How did you find the application and lasting ability of it?

I found that I had to apply pressure to get the colour to show. Once I eventually got some colour on my eye lid, it was fairly long-lasting.

How did you find the smell and texture of the product?

There was no discernable smell to the eye pencil. I didn’t find the texture creamy at all and it didn’t live up to its shade name ‘Softsmudge Black’ .

Rituals of Beauty

August 15, 2009 by admin

What is your unique beauty regime? Our daily beauty routines can become a time of connection to ourselves. We look at how Ayurveda the ancient system of healing can benefit our own personal sense of self in the modern day madness.

Our Sensory Journey Whenever I run Ayurvedic Beauty workshops, I ask people to close their eyes and connect with their skin. How does it feel? How do they feel about their skin? What are the qualities (cold, hot, dry, oily, rough, smooth etc). Our skin connects us to the physical world; it gives us our sense of touch and defines the boundary of who we are.

How we feel in our skin drives many aspects of our sense of wellbeing. Ayurvedic beauty differs little in its philosophy from the overall healing science that is Ayurvedic Medicine. Our skin is a doorway that allows the medicinal qualities of herbs and plants to be absorbed into the internal tissues. These therapeutic oils are working at a molecular level to deliver healing properties to our cellular systems.

Ayurvedic Rituals or sadhana’s (spiritual practices) are the daily practices and routines used to harmonise and maintain balance within our lives. In the case of our beauty regimes, we can harmonise by connecting to ourselves at the start and end of the day. It’s a time to give soul nourishment to ourselves.

Bringing awareness to our rituals heightens our connection with self, bringing about a greater sense of wellbeing. We can however slap on our oils, creams and potions whilst thinking about what we didn’t get done today or being upset about something or somebody. We can easily miss the opportunity to connect with ourselves and turn it into yet another task to be completed. Turning our beauty regime into a sacred time for being within oneself can become a precious and enlivening aspect of daily life that nourishes not only on the outside but the inside.

Tips for Tuning In

Everybody has one or two dominant senses. Mine is smell. I love the smell of essential oils, coffee, grass, wind etc. I also love sound. So for me to become more aware during my beauty routine, I smell and breathe deeply. I also tend to talk, hum or chant.

Other people are touch orientated so they focus on tactile sensations, connecting with their own sensitivity through the joy of touch.

In all cases, finding a way to “remember to breath” is important. Breath can stop a busy mind and opens a doorway to connecting with ourselves.

* Take a deep breath … actually take 3 deep breaths

* Smell the products – your skin care products will always be more effective if you connect with the smell of them as it stimulates the nervous systems and “activates” our cellular intelligence. If your nose doesn’t agree with the smell – consider finding a product that you do enjoy smelling

* Touch with feeling – be conscious of how you touch your skin; explore different methods of touching that make you feel good. Ayurvedic beauty books have fabulous “natural face lift” massages.

* Speech – tell yourself something positive and truthful about yourself; hum a tune or chant a mantra. Alternatively, give off a good belly laugh

* Look – Imagine you are somebody else looking at you. Imagine how others see you. See your inherent beauty.

The Greatest Beauty Secret of All

As Audrey Hepburn put it, “If you wish to be truly beautiful – be generous, kind and giving”. So take time to make your beauty regime a ritual of beauty and giving to yourself.

Natural Glow – Is it Just About a Tan?

August 15, 2009 by admin

Even though we are constantly being told about protecting our skin from the sun, it became glaringly obvious to me the other week that the message is not getting through. My husband and I decided to go and watch the finals of the beach volleyball championships. So dutifully I applied extra strong sunscreen all over my body, used my mineral makeup on my face that has its own sun protection and donned my long sleeved light cotton blouse and wide brimmed hat.

Shockingly in a crowd of a few hundred spectators, I was one of a few women who had a hat on (mine was the biggest) and I had to have been one of the less tanned ones in that crowd. Even more shockingly, most of the women instead of looking for shade, decided that this would be a great time to work on their tans. Sadly most of these women looked as if this was not the first time they worked on their tans.

Which brings the question to mind: Why are we willing to sacrifice our health and in some cases our lives, in order to be tanned?

The latest medical research may just give us a clue. Tanning can be addictive. Ultra Violet light encourages the release of endorphins in the brain that creates a feeling of wellness, happiness and euphoria. In a study done by Researchers at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Centre, frequent tanners who’d been given endorphin blockers recorded withdrawal symptoms – namely nausea, dizziness, and the shakes.

Therefore to keep this feeling of wellness and happiness, women would sunbake at every opportunity and when the weather wouldn’t permit it, would hit the tanning salons. All we have to do to confirm this is look at the number of tanning places that are springing up all over the place. Even the local little beauty salon is offering tanning bed sessions with beauty treatments.

Tanning beds are no better than tanning in the sun. In fact they can be worse. “Tanning lamps emit four times more damaging UVA rays than the sun,” explains dermatologist Dr. Jody A. Levine.

What’s more, your risk of melanoma (the most deadly skin cancer) increases 75 percent if you tan indoors before age 35.” So with all this evidence around us it is vital that we are not only consciously aware of it but apply it practically.

We need to realise that a tan is no longer a sign of healthy skin! A tan is no longer sexy!

A tan is not something to be desired! If you don’t believe me, just look through the pictures of all the celebrities on the red carpet. It is very rare these days that you will see a tanned celebrity. Instead you will see natural coloured, glowing skin. And if there is a hint of colour, it came from a bottle. That is what all of us must aim for. Natural, glowing skin. The true sign of health, vitality and well being. And that doesn’t come from hours in the sun!

Over-Blown Lips are Out of Vogue

August 15, 2009 by admin

Lip enhancement is in, enlargement is out. Recently released findings from a new survey* on lip aesthetics reveal that only two per cent of Australians associate ‘big’ as the most important attribute when it comes to beautiful lips.

“Australian women are finally moving away from the ‘bigger is better’ approach, wanting a more tailored, softer look from their treatment,” says Australian Plastic Surgeon Dr Steven Liew.

Dr. Liew notes that the recent Australian aesthetics lip survey results closely mirror emerging global trends in lip enhancement procedures, with a growing majority of women understanding that proportion to the face and customisation are of paramount importance for perfect lip results.

“Lips should be sexy, sensual and seductive and most importantly, in proportion to a woman’s face. Very few women suit the large, pouty lips that we have seen in the past – at home and abroad. A tailored, more natural look invariably looks more attractive,” he says.

Sydney-based Dr Liew recently returned from Europe’s most prestigious cosmetic surgery conference, the International Master Course on Ageing Skin (IMCAS), where he was an expert panel member on lip aesthetics along with experts from France, Britain and the U.S.

According to Dr Liew, major highlights from IMCAS include:

* There is an increasing demand for lip augmentation globally and locally;

* Australians are matching European trends for a more tailored, softer style of lip, with a focus on enhancing rather than exaggerating;

* The panel of experts from around the globe agreed that the perfect HA dermal filler (i.e. an injectable gel made from naturally occurring complex sugar called Hyaluronic Acid) to use on the lips must be able to move fluidly with movement of the lips (i.e. be pliable), and be safe, smooth and soft;

* In Europe, lip enhancement treatments using HA dermal fillers have become fashionable fixes with women requesting specific styles that are regarded as in vogue. Lip styles such as the defined, subtle ‘Paris Lip’ and the fuller yet conservative ‘London Lip’ are more natural and sculptured compared to the recent trends of over-blown lips, seen in the U.S, and in particular Hollywood.

Dr Liew recently revealed the ‘Sydney Lip’. The ‘Sydney Lip’ depicts the proportionate enhancement of the lip to the current concepts of facial beauty, and specifically suits the needs of Australian women. Unlike European countries, the Australian climate can lend to greater dehydration and premature ageing and loss of volume of the lips. Dr Liew’s sculptured Sydney Lip provides a naturally full and rejuvenated appearance, well defined borders and Cupid’s Bow. It is a lip style that is beautifully tailored, inviting and attractive, fresh and sensuous. In short it is JUICY for its hydrated appearance.

The Sydney Lip is also soft to touch. The lip aesthetics survey conducted by Newspoll found that two out of three Australians most associate natural looking and feeling lips with beautiful lips; more so than the lip size, symmetry or volume alone.

“Lips are a very tactile part of the body, so it’s important for them to not only look attractive but feel attractive too. Dermal fillers allow physicians to refine, sculpt and enhance a person’s lips however, it is important to ensure the chosen dermal filler has a soft texture to create a more natural feel,” says Dr Liew.

“The filler I choose has to be proven to be safe, soft and smooth, such as Juvaderm, in order to create a set of lips that are perfectly enhanced, and look and feel natural. It’s important that neither the patient nor their partner can see or feel the products. My goal is to create an effect which I believe is the epitome of any perfectly performed cosmetic enhancement – that is, ‘everyone will notice but nobody will know’.”

Other survey highlights include:

* Maybe mother does know best! The percentage of people who felt natural looking and natural feeling are the most important attributes associated with beautiful lips increased with age (61 per cent of people aged 18-34, vs. 76 per cent of people aged 35-64)

* Friends, partners and beauty editors are the most influential – in their decision to have a lip enhancement treatment using a dermal filler, women aged between 18 and 34 years old would be most influenced by a friend or family member who has had a treatment (16 per cent), followed by their partner (11 per cent) and beauty / fashion magazines (10 per cent). In fact, these sources play more of an influential role than their doctor or GP (8 per cent) or cosmetic physician / plastic surgeon (5 per cent).

* One in three Australian women aged 18-34 years would consider a dermal filler to enhance their lips if they knew the results would be natural looking and feeling. “At home and abroad, there is a gradual shift in focus from women deciding to have a treatment, to deciding what style of treatment they want,” says Dr Liew. “There is greater appreciation and understanding of how dermal fillers can enhance the lips to make them look their best in a desirable natural-looking manner.”

About Dr Steven Liew As a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), Dr Liew is one of Australia’s most respected and accredited plastic surgeons. Trained internationally in all range of cosmetic surgery, he maintains a keen interest in the area of breast and face. In addition to consulting patients at Shape Clinic & mediSpa in Darlinghurst (www.shapeclinic.com.au), he also holds the position of consultant plastic surgeon in St Vincent’s General and the St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Sydney.

Overall Star Rating:

I loved the overall look and the packaging of this mascara. From the box to the tube it feels luxurious and the formulation doesn’t disappoint either. It has a gel like texture that just glides on to the lashes and coats them individually. The colour is a deep black that appears glossy on the lashes and stays soft.

It is also easy to remove at the end of the day. You simply wet the lashes, apply gentle pressure and they just slide off. What I loved most was the no-panda eyes. There is absolutely no smudging or smearing, no transfer and no leftover mascara after removal.
This is a fabulous everyday mascara that lenghtens and builds the lashes well and provides good length. I thoroughly enjoyed the use, wear and the feel of the mascara on the lashes. Highly recommended.

Joanne – Age:26

I was thrilled and confident about the product as I’ve seen many beauty awards it received in magazines. Love the glamorous packaging – the pouch, diamond-shaped silver tube. The diamond-shaped brush wrapped every lash in an instant. It adds volume and defines in one quick sweep. I only needed one to two coats to give me the colour I like; unlike other products that make you feel like you needed to apply numerous coats to achieve fuller lashes.
I particularly adore the gel-like texture, feels soft when applied on lashes; even better when I removed it because my lashes did not fall out at all! I will definitely buy this clever product over and over again, it created pretty, full lashes, and because I can remove the mascara easily with warm water, it’s already saving me money on the eye makeup remover.

Brigitta – Age:25

What can I say! The mascara looked so elegant in it’s celvet pouch and silver casing, I felt glamorous just using it. I loved the fact that it’s free of all the nasties especially as I’m using it around my eyes. The first thing I noticed when I applied it was how smooth it felt going on. Than even when it dried my lashes stayed so soft. I guess that’s from the beeswax in the formulation. It gave me lovely long lashes and stayed put all day long. I especially loved the fact that I could just wash it off at the end of the day.I don’t have anything bad to say about this mascara, I really like using it and will probably continue to do so.

Rebecca – Age:24

This mascara came in a cute packaging with an opulent looking tube and velvet pouch. The mascara just glides on, no clumps at all!! Smooth texture that glides on without pulling on the lashes. I could even layer it several times without clumps forming. The brush has a nice shape and the density of the bristles helps coat each lash. There was no smell at all. The colour was a true black and did not look grey at all.
4.5 Stars

Venitia – Age:22

The packaging of this mascara is individual and appealing. The application was easy and my eyelashes didn’t go hard afterwards. They did however tend to clump together rather than look separated and defined. The colour was pure black and I found I only needed one coat to get total coverage. The texture was smooth. The product had a slightly chemical smell to it, but only while applying. I would give it a 3.5 Stars. It smudged a bit throughout the day and didn’t give me quite the volume and separation I was after.

Julie – Age:34

The mascara was nicely packaged and looked like a quality product. The label promised ‘no more panda eyes’, which I thought was interesting since I usually have them by day’s end. It also said the mascara would last for 24 hours, although I had no idea why anyone would want that? The applicator wand was really great with brushes that effectively separated each lash.
The colour was black which is my usual colour. The formula was definitely not gluggy or too runny like some mascaras. I found that the mascara didn’t smudge or fall off my lashes like some do, however I like a mascara that makes my lashes look thicker. This product said it would do that, but I didn’t think it beefed up my lashes like others do. Although it’s a really nice product I probably wouldn’t buy it again.

1: Update Your Makeup

This is the perfect time to update your makeup and your application skills. Make an appointment for a makeover and ask lots of questions. This is important because not only do makeup trends change but your skin changes over time too, so a professional makeup artist can asses your individual needs and teach you the best way to emphasise your best features.

2: Brighten Up Your Colours
While the nude naturals have their place in the makeup arsenal, this season sees the return of bright, vibrant colour. Try something new that you never dared to wear before. Do not be afraid of colour but experiment and find the ones most flattering for your own colourings. Nothing gives you a more flattering, radiant look than a sweep of blusher. Peach and pink tones suit most complexions and give you a delightful glow.

3: Highlight the Eyes
Eye makeup application is the most sought after skill among women. Little wonder as the skilful application of eye makeup is capable of transforming the whole face. Choose contrasting colours to your eye colour to accentuate the eyes. Apply the darker colour into the socket bone area and use the lighter shades above the lash line and under the brow to define the shape of your eyes. Don’t forget the mascara. Nothing opens up the eyes more than lashings of black lengthening mascara.

4: Get An Eyelash Curler
If you don’t already use an eyelash curler, this is the year to start. The converts will tell you, there exists no other product or tool that will make as much difference in your look as an eyelash curler. This one product alone will open up your eyes like nothing else and you will be hooked just like the rest of us.

5: Shape Your Brows
The eyebrows frame the face. It is important to have the right shape of brows that will compliment not only the shape of your eyes but also your face. If you are uncertain about doing your own brows especially if you’re an eyebrow shaping virgin, see a professional to give you tips and determine the best shape for you. Then you can maintain the shape at home yourself.

6: Treat Yourself to Facials
Facials at a quality salon are not just for the rich and pampered. Facials every six to eight weeks will give you not only a skin check up by a qualified therapist but also will determine if you are using the correct products for your particular skin concerns. Facials generally include a facial massage that is not only relaxing but has many benefits for the skin and are hard to do for yourself at home. Facial massage increases the circulation in the skin which helps the skin receive needed blood and nutrients helping the skin appear healthier and aids in the tissue repair. It also assists the movement of lymph fluid which in turn helps to get rid of accumulated toxins. All in all facials are a wonderful treat that everyone should indulge in.

7: Tan Only Inside
If you like the tanned look make sure you get it from a bottle only. Lying on the beach getting burned is a thing of the past or at least it should be. There are excellent products that give the skin a very natural glow and the formulations are improving constantly. If you are unsure about applying self tans or afraid of having tidemarks on your skin try the gradual self tanners that will slowly over time build into a deeper tan allowing you to correct any mistakes. These also give the skin a nice golden glow rather than the dreaded orange tinge.

8: Block Out the Sun
If you haven’t already made sunscreen a regular part of your skin care routine than you must do so this year. The suns rays are not only burning your skin but also aging it. The best anti-aging treatment for your skin is a full spectrum sun screen that is applied to the skin every day. Whether it is sunny or overcast your sunscreen must be applied as the UVA and UVB rays penetrate the clouds. Choose a sunscreen that has a physical block in it or reapply the sunscreen regularly.

9: Invest In the Best
There is a time to be thrifty and a time to splurge. Make sure you splurge on the beauty essentials that will make your makeup look a million dollars and you will see why this is an important investment. It’s worth spending your money on the basics such as a great makeup primer, foundation, concealer, makeup brush and moisturiser. Than you can save on the rest if you chose to because the basics will make them look fabulous anyway.
